What to Expect | Que Esperar

We’re a pretty eclectic sort. There is no dress code. Come as you are. We worship every Sunday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in our Sanctuary. Sunday services and Sunday School last about an hour. Childcare is always available.

Our worship style features a blend of both traditional and contemporary music, preaching, teaching, prayer, and sacramental celebrations. We strive for a balance between a routine that promotes a sense of reassurance, and variety that emulates the spirit of the living Christ. Eden’s services begin and end with organ or piano music, and commence with congregational responses and prayers, then announcements, the Children’s Gathering, and a sermon and pastoral prayer, ending with the offering and a closing song. Our children and youth are invited forward early in the service, and then excused to classes or the nursery. We sing and hear a wide range of music performed by diverse ensembles. Our Senior Minister, Pastor Arlene Nehring, preaches frequently and shares the pulpit with our ministerial staff and lay leaders. A talented team of lay liturgists brings creativity and faith-filled insights to weekly worship.

Baptism and Communion | BAUTISMO Y COMUNIÓN

We celebrate two sacraments: baptism and communion. Children and adult candidates are baptized during Sunday morning services. The amount of water varies across traditions—at Eden we sprinkle—but the meaning of baptism is the same: we belong to God, to each other, and to the church universal; and nothing can separate us from God’s love. Contact our Senior Minister if you desire baptism for yourself or a loved one.

Christ is host at communion. You are welcome here. By partaking of the broken bread, we acknowledge our individual and collective need for grace. By dipping a piece of the bread into a common cup, we celebrate Christ’s love for us and for all people. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month and at other special occasions. Anointing is part of our communion liturgy and is a sign of Christ’s peace and healing.

Labyrinth | Laberinto

A labyrinth is an ancient pattern of circuits and turns that has been used in many traditions for meditation and ritual. Some of the earliest examples of labyrinths have been found in Greece, dating back as far as 2500 BCE. The earliest example of a Christian labyrinth was found in a fourth-century basilica in Algeria. Perhaps the best-known example of a Christian labyrinth is the eleven-circuit one laid into the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France, built between 1194 and 1260 CE.

A labyrinth is not a maze, with many choices of paths and dead-ends and tricks. Rather, it is “unicursal,” meaning there is only one path that leads into the center of the design and back out again. Walking the labyrinth can become symbolic of the Christian journey, of finding the path to God. With no choices to make about which path to take, one surrenders to the journey and the divine guidance that can come by reaching the center. For many, the labyrinth experience is used as a spiritual tool for prayer, meditation, and healing.

Eden Church installed a Chartres-style seven-circuit labyrinth in October 2002. Made of green and gray terrazzo, this scaled-down version of the Chartres labyrinth allows us to fit the labyrinth into our available courtyard space while maintaining the symbolism of the original. The labyrinth is open Monday through Friday during business hours and following worship on Sunday. The labyrinth is also available for retreats and special events.

Un laberinto es un antiguo patrón de circuitos y giros que se ha utilizado en muchas tradiciones para la meditación y el ritual. Algunos de los primeros ejemplos de laberintos se han encontrado en Grecia, que datan del año 2500 a. C.
